LCL yet again inspiring the next generation of healthcare
Science professionals at this year’s Big Bang fair.
Our amazing LCL staff based at both Aintree Hospital and The Royal Liverpool Hospital sites were in attendance at The Big Bang Fair organised by MerseyStem, led by Engineering UK and sponsored by AstraZeneca, Health Education North West amongst many others on the 8th of July. The event was held at Aintree racecourse and hosted hundreds of children and young adults from Merseyside, the North West and beyond. The event celebrates and raises awareness of young people engaged and achieving in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
The LCL team were on hand to advise, inform and educate on careers and opportunities within healthcare science. The team engaged with students from Aintree, Liverpool, Rochdale, Macclesfield and even as far as Barrow-in-Furness, all curious at exploring the potential paths into the field of healthcare science.
David Eccleston, the head of Modernising Scientific Careers for LCL, explained to teachers and students that there are “43 different career paths in the healthcare science sector.” This was complimented by a brochure that looks at the framework for the various roles, including those available within LCL. It was also a great opportunity to inform students about the options they have and the best routes to take from a university stand point. The team also provided alternative routes into the sector for those unsure about attending university.
The team had diverse experiences and educations, specialising in Haematology, Cellular Pathology and Biochemistry, providing a wealth of academic and vocational acumen.
We were also very happy to give away all of our supplies, from leaflets, booklets, guides, wristbands and of course lollipops.
We hope all attendees of the event had an enjoyable day. We would also like to thank the staff and volunteers that helped the event run smoothly and consistently offered our team support and of course our team for doing an amazing job of representing LCL. To wrap up, the team at LCL certainly had a “Stemtastic” day.
