Ruth Pruden became Clinical Chemistry Service Lead for Liverpool Clinical Laboratories in July 2020.
Prior to this, Ruth had been the Non-Automated Laboratory Manager for Clinical Chemistry since 2014. Her career started back in 1995 when she graduated from the University of Liverpool with an honours degree in Biochemistry and immediately began working for the NHS.
Her first appointment was as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Biochemistry Department at Fazakerley Hospital. In 1996 she successfully obtained a Trainee MLSO post and in 1997 qualified as a state registered MLSO in Biochemistry.
In 2001, Ruth was appointed as a Senior MLSO in the Clinical Chemistry Department at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital were she joined a team of supervisors who held technical responsibility for the day to day running of both the Automated and Non-Automated Chemistry Laboratories. With a keen interest in problem solving and innovation, she was appointed as the Non-Automated Chemistry Manager in 2014 and held this post until becoming Service Lead for Liverpool Clinical Laboratories (LCL) in July 2020.
Holding an MSc in Biomedical Science, iLM3 diploma and close to completing a foundation degree in Leadership and Management, Ruth is passionate about supporting the LCL Chemistry workforce to develop and achieve their full potential.
Outside of LCL, Ruth has one daughter and loves nothing more than spending time with her family at her caravan in North Wales. She is also a keen musician who enjoys playing trumpet and guitar.
